Silverton’s Affordable Housing Initiative Gains Momentum

Silverton is making significant strides in addressing its affordable housing needs. Recently, modular housing units were transported to the town, marking a pivotal step in expanding housing opportunities for residents.

To facilitate the safe delivery of these oversized loads, a section of US 550 between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton experienced temporary closures. These occurred on Friday from 7-9 a.m. and again from 3:15-5:15 p.m., ensuring the smooth transit of the housing units. Such measures underscore the community’s commitment to enhancing local infrastructure and meeting the housing demands of its population.

The San Juan Development Association (SJDA) has been instrumental in this endeavor. As an Economic Development 501(c)(3) organization, SJDA promotes commercial, cultural, industrial, and recreational development in Silverton and San Juan County. Their vision is to create a thriving, sustainable community inclusive of all members and businesses. Notably, SJDA’s Anvil Affordable Homeownership program has successfully introduced four new affordable housing units, providing valuable homeownership opportunities for Silverton residents.

These developments reflect Silverton’s proactive approach to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community, ensuring that housing remains accessible to all who call this picturesque mountain town home.
